In 2011 I traveled to Peru with a group of medical and nursing students from my alma mater, UTMB -Galveston. We spent a week working in the the hills of Villa Salvador, one of the largest and poorest slums of Lima. It was a true reality check as we traveled along the streets from our hostel to the clinic each day. We provided basic check ups, eye exams and other various medical tasks. We were able to spend some time sight seeing around Lima our final day.
